Raise your hand if you’re an endlessly rabid Potterhead like yours truly.

So, yeah, you can easily say I was beyond pumped for this app when news started trickling around. I was so excited to live through a new story of the Wizarding World, even if the fact it was an app kind of put me off a little bit (because apps sometimes prove to be nothing but money grabs with micro-transactions), I was so willing to give it a good try anyway. I was hoping for an awesome little reminder of the world I grew up with (because Curse Child didn’t really do it justice, soz), but.

Did it live up to expectations? Er …

Let’s start first with what the app is even about, yeah?

So you start off playing as a first year whose brother had gotten expelled from Hogwarts for sticking his fingers in pies he shouldn’t have, and then mysteriously disappeared immediately after. Sounds like a good story, right? I think so, has a lot of potential.

First, you get to customize your character. There aren’t a lot of options, but at least in the end (after some fun poking around and Diagon Alley shopping and such), you do get to choose your house.

I chose Gryffindor, of course. ๐Ÿ˜‰

From there you go to lessons such as Charms and Potions and have the ability to explore parts of the castle and continue forth with the story you are given.

You have a best friend in the form of Rowan …

… and a rival in the form of Merula …

… and a few other characters to interact with as you go! I won’t give them all away, but there are some familiar faces you’ll recognize as you play. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now, the parts I find really, really annoying. Rather, part.

The energy.

I understand why it’s there, and I understand why they chose to have that aspect, but the balance between energy and action is jacked. Badly. They either need to up the energy you can have at once or lower the amount needed to get through a class, because the current way they have it is just ridiculous. It seriously puts me off the game, and up until I was off the tutorial and playing on my own, I was having a blast!

And it seems like it can be a fantastic game! I want so badly to go through it and see what happens, but with all the waiting I might just … forget about it. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I’m hoping they’ll change it soon enough. The game hasn’t been out very long yet, so I’ll cut them some slack. For now.

I’m enjoying what I can out of it as it is regardless, but I do hope they tweak it a little but so I can enjoy it more and not get frustrated with the restraint the energy puts on it.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I totally agree with you about the energy. Aside from that Iโ€™m really enjoying it but itโ€™s so annoying to have to wait for your energy to fill back up however I donโ€™t have a lot of patients so I tend to wait and the.n go back and use what Iโ€™ve gotten.

  2. What annoys me the most about this game is that the app developers automatically assume everyone will have an Apple or Android device, so they don’t think to make it available for every tablet. I wanted to try it out but I have a Kindle Fire so obviously unable to jump on the bandwagon and join in on the fun.

  3. I feel the same way about the energy. Iโ€™ve gotten to the point where Iโ€™m banning myself from buying more gems just to get more energy ๐Ÿ˜‚ Now Iโ€™m in Year 3 and itโ€™s become annoying in waiting for them to catch up with me ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. I didn’t even know it had stopped at Year 3 until I got to it, and now I’m like, “I did all that rushing for nothing! Now I have to wait!” I’m so annoyed. ๐Ÿ˜‚
